We have several sets of coaches here at the P&AR. From LNER designs, to modern Mk1s, only replaced by Mk2s very recently.
Crimson/Cream Mk1 rake
Recently arrived is this rake of ex-BR Mk1s, repainted from a mix of Maroon and blue/grey into the attractive eastern region Crimson/cream of the 1950s. This 4 coach rake provides passenger services on daily services, behind both steam and diesel.
Green Mk1 Rake
Our second 4 coach rake of Mk1s. These were purchased from BR. the ownership group of 92 squadron paid for part the purchase, and the repaint, so it was decided to paint them green, both for their loco, and future locos they plan to bring to the railway, and also for our diesel locos. They often form part of our daily service, behind a diesel, or suitable steam locomotive.
Gresley Teak Rake
A popular 4 coach rake with tourists and enthusiasts, used most days where more than 2 trains are in operation. Beautifully restored to original LNER condition by the railway, with help from the A4 society, and other LNER locomotive owners at the railway.
Thompson Teak Rake
Restored by the Thompson society in our carriage works at Appleby. A lovely rake of coaches, Just increased to 4 in length due to the completion of another coach. At least 1 more is expected, currently under overhaul. Although still popular with enthusiasts, they are not as popular with the public as the Gresley's are, due to their more graceful lines.
LNER Silver Jubilee rake
Another beautiful rake, restored by the A4 society for use with silver Fox. Currently used on our luxury dining trains 'The Silver Jubilee' Every other Saturday and Sunday lunch and evening.
BR Mk1 Postal Train
One of the remaining mainline services is the Postal train to Penyale and Appleby, consisting of TPO coaches, and other postal vehicles, although not owned by the railway, a picture of a average rake is included on this site to represent some of the BR traffic. The services are usually class 31 hauled, but do see some interesting visitors!
