Diesel Locomotives/Railcars

In the past few years, some of British Rail's early and now redundant diesels, along with some much more prominent classes, displaced by more advanced technology, have become available to the Preservation scene. Having a deal with BR over our running line, we have a good relationship with them, and have recieved 2 locomotives so far, and also, from time to time, get locos on loan/visiting between duties.

This loco, made redundant by BR before we were formed, was taken into the national collection. Upon our formation, we needed some immediate locomotive power, and contacted the NRM about such a loco. It arrived here in 1969, and took part in the opening ceremony, and has been running regularly ever since. We have the loco on long term loan from the NRM, to whom we give thanks.

Class 55 deltic 55015 'Tulyar'

Operational Status: Operational

Owner: P&AR

One of our most recent, and most valuable locos. Replaced by HSTs, the last of its class were withdrawn in 1982, including this example. An extremely useful loco, providing easy motive power for our daily passenger services.

Class 35 Hymek D7063

Operational Status: Stored, awaiting repair

Owner: P&AR

This loco was basically dumped on us. Although a western region engine, it was working a train on the eastern region, when it failed on our joint owned rails. One of our locos rescued it and it's train, and the locomotive was put on shed, and BR contacted. When they were told it had failed, they said we could keep it, as it was nearing withdrawal anyway. We accepted the loco, as it was in good condition, just needed a slight repair. It has provided good service on a regular basis, but is currently Stored, although Operational, due to a slight fault we would rather fix than let it get worse.

DRB railbus

Operation Status: Stored, awaiting decision on future

Owner: P&AR

This railbus was bought by the railway to provide a simple unit to run services on shuttles. It was bought on the understanding it was in good, operational condition. However, when it arrived, it was discovered that the engine was heavily damaged, and many parts had been taken for spares. There was also no interior. The railway is now in talks about the posibility of restoring it, and if it is viable to do so.

This locomotive is currently on loan to the P&AR. It has recently been heavily repaired after an accident, and is on the railway for running in turns. It will operate passenger trains over the next few weeks, before leaving, back for BR service.
